CloudLinux prevents a single tenant from using up all the resources by isolating it into a virtualized environment. With Linux, if a website receives extreme traffic, all websites on the server will be slow or down. With CloudLinux, all websites on the server will be normal and only the website receiving the extreme traffic will be slow or down. In addition to security benefits, this is the single most important benefit of CloudLinux.
CloudLinux is designed from the ground up to secure and control individual tenants in shared hosting environments. CloudLinux stops intruders, prevents various attacks and increases server performance. Linux was never meant to be used by a large number of unvetted users. It is too easy for a hacker to obtain an account by signing up or by abusing some script, gain inside access to the server and begin poking around. CloudLinux stops that.
While a normal Linux server may go offline due to sudden spikes caused by a single tenant, CloudLinux stays stable by isolating the impact to the offending tenant. It creates a Lightweight Virtualized Environment (LVE) with CageFS for each tenant and "cages" them, separating from issues caused by others. Any error or failure specific to a single tenant will only affect that tenant and others will not experience any of it. All tenants on the server are isolated from each other so if one goes down everyone else is still stable and safe.
CageFS is a virtualized, per-user file system that encapsulates each user, isolates them in "cages" to increase security. It prevents them from seeing each other and stops most information disclosure attacks and privilege escalation attacks.
