What is Semi Dedicated Hosting?

Semi Dedicated Hosting is easy to use high performance hosting with large resource allocations. In a way, it is similar to regular shared hosting but comes with VPS like isolation and resources - more CPU, RAM, and other server resources. It delivers fast page load times, is fully managed, and can handle large traffic and sudden traffic spikes.

Is Semi Dedicated faster than VPS?

Semi Dedicated Hosting is faster than VPS when hardware and software are identical. It is also faster at the same price point.

The underlying server of Semi Dedicated Hosting can have much better optimization at the software level, which requires access to a larger pool of hardware resources. On a VPS, the software stack can only access what the VPS has. Hence, it cannot outperform Semi Dedicated.

For example, if you have 3 GB RAM, and the underlying server has 128 GB RAM, the software stack of the server can access the entire 128 GB RAM, which results in better optimizations. But on a VPS, if you have 3 GB RAM, the software stack can only access 3 GB, which is not adequate to outperform a software stack that can access 128 GB RAM.

A fast VPS requires various software and optimization for fast performance. You will need to pay for commercial software licenses to install them. But with Semi Dedicated Hosting, a full stack of performance and stability software is included for free.

What are the differences between VPS and Semi Dedicated Hosting?

The primary difference is, you cannot install any server software on Semi Dedicated Hosting. It comes bundled with premium software (LiteSpeed, CloudLinux, MailChannels, JetBackup, etc.) to enhance user experience, performance, and stability. You do not need to pay any license fee for them.

You can also upgrade to a Managed High Frequency VPS, Quasi Dedicated Server, or Managed Dedicated Server. We will handle migrating your websites to the new server.

How do I transfer my websites?

We offer free migration from cPanel and DirectAdmin based hosting accounts. Our expert migration team will transfer all your websites, scripts, emails, and databases from your previous hosting account to your Semi Dedicated Hosting account with us.

Do you allow adult content?

No, hosting content that could be considered adult in nature is not allowed on any package.

Do you provide SSH access?

Yes, we provide jailed SSH access. To obtain your SSH access, please open a support ticket for instructions.

What is jailed SSH access?

Jailed SSH access is a secure SSH access where a user can only access their files; they cannot access other users' files.

What happens if I need more server resources for my hosting account?

You can always upgrade to a larger package if you need more resources. Sometimes, resource consumption can be lowered by a few tweaks without needing to upgrade. For example, you can make use of our LiteSpeed Cache, which reduces resource consumption tremendously.

Do I need any prior experience to use Semi Dedicated Hosting?

Do you provide root access?

No, Semi Dedicated Hosting does not come with root access. Please have a look at our VPS Hosting and Dedicated Server packages if you need root access.

Do you provide offsite backup?

Yes, offsite backup is included for free with all Semi Dedicated Hosting packages. Your entire hosting account is automatically backed up daily to an offsite server located in a geographically different data center. Up to 30 backups, one for each day in a month, are kept for up to 30 days.

Do you provide SSL certificates?

Yes, we provide SSL certificates for free. You can install an unlimited number of SSL certificates on all your domains with just a mouse click. Once installed, they will be renewed automatically without any intervention from you.

Does Semi Dedicated Hosting have VPS like isolation?

Each hosting account is isolated in its own lightweight virtual environment, much like an OpenVZ VPS. We create a lightweight virtual environment and a virtualized file system for each hosting account to keep them separate from one another. Issues in one hosting account cannot affect the other accounts on the server. If one account gets infected or compromised, the impact is isolated to that account only, and all other accounts remain unaffected.

What are the limitations of Semi Dedicated Hosting?

You cannot install any server software or change server configuration. You can change the user-level configuration, change PHP versions, modify PHP configuration, enable/disable PHP extensions, install WordPress, Joomla, and 450+ other apps, etc.
